Configuration Linguistics, part I
- The need for common terms.
- Personalizer Libraries.
In developing Personalizer, we found that the set goals
cannot be achieved without games all using a common
base of configuration terms.
Imagine what happens if all games suddenly arrive
at the same page with these terms. What if all games only
termed Invert Mouse as 'Invert Mouse Vertical Axis'
and dumped all other possible descriptions?
Consequence One: Configuring games becomes a little
easier for gamers, since every new game does not
dump their previous configuration-related experience at
least in regards of inverting the mouse.
Consequence Two: An idea emerges that most of the other
common settings and in-game actions should be termed
in the same consistent fashion, where possible.
This is how Personalizer libraries saw the light.
Personalizer libraries are common vocabularies of game
configuration verbs and nouns.
