Worst Kind of Lies
- Invert Mouse
- Resolution and Color Depth.
- Basic FPS motion actions.
In general, we agree that statistics is the worst kind
of lies out there, but take a quick look at these real-life
figures. We sampled 73 first-person shooters from our
database to obtain them.
Out of 73 games, 59 had, in one form or another,
the option to invert vertical mouse axis. Of the rest
14, only five games have been released after the year 2000.
Invert Mouse occurs in over 80% of first-person shooters!
Display parameters, such as resolution, color depth,
and refresh rate occur in most games of most genres.
The only variation across the board is how these parameters
are combined and termed in the setup screens.
Take the most basic motion actions that occur in first-person
shooters. Forward, Backpedal, Strafe Left,
Strafe Right, Turn Right, Turn Left,
Crouch, and Jump. These are so common in FPS games that
every genre afficionado has very strong opinions about
the preferrable keyboard layout.
So, as you can see, there is a good reason to be surprised
that games today do not remember and do not share your
preferences.
